 Creative Framing – Defying Gravity!

contemporary frames to defy gravity

While a classic frame does the job, sometimes you want a framing solution that takes your artwork to the next level. That’s where shadow boxes, floating frames, and tray frames step in, offering unique ways to showcase paintings on canvas, wood panels, and boards.

Each of these frames use techniques that leave your artwork apparently floating in the frame.

The Magic of  Shadow Box Frames

Shadowbox frames are deep box frames with a white backing board. The artwork is mounted on a hidden fitting so it appears as if it’s floating in the frame, hovering over the backing board and casting a shadow on the background, just like magic! It looks stunning and is a great conversation starter when guests notice the painting defying gravity. They’re perfect for paintings on board, but paintings on paper can be framed this way too. It’s a very  contemporary look.

Floating Frames: Modern Elegance

To create a floating look for paintings on stretched canvases and wood panels we need a floater frame. These frames create the illusion of the artwork floating in the frame thanks to a small gap between the edge of canvas and the frame, so you can see the edges of the canvas or panel. This framing style gives a minimal look to the piece, adding the finishing touch without the need for glass.

Tray Frames: Subtle Sophistication

Tray frames are specifically designed for paintings on board. These slim frames have an inner rim which the board is fixed to, leaving a small gap around the painting so you can see the edges of the board.  A slim, lightweight frame that doesn’t need glass. A minimalist, modern vibe.
